Family Counselling
aBOUT Family Counselling
Families are where we first learn about love, safety, identity, and belonging, but they can also be where we experience misunderstanding, tension, or pain. Whether your family is navigating conflict, big life transitions, or long-standing patterns that feel hard to shift, family therapy offers a space to slow down and make sense of what’s happening together.
I work relationally with families to understand each person’s experience and the dynamics between you. The goal is not to assign blame, but to create space for deeper listening, clearer communication, and renewed connection.
In our work together, I support you both in exploring how you relate to yourselves and to each other. We’ll look at the patterns that have taken shape over time, the unspoken expectations, the hurts that haven’t healed, and the longing for closeness that may sit just beneath the surface.
My approach is collaborative and relational. I draw from a blend of therapeutic models to support this work, including person-centred therapy, which creates space for empathy and authenticity; psychodynamic insight, which helps us understand the deeper roots of your relational dynamics; and cognitive behavioural strategies, which offer practical ways to shift unhelpful cycles. Rather than applying a fixed method, I shape the work around your unique relationship and what it needs to thrive.
How I Work
My approach is grounded in empathy, curiosity, and care. I draw from person-centred, psychodynamic, and cognitive behavioural therapies — meaning we’ll look both at what’s happening on the surface (like arguments, roles, or behaviours) and the deeper emotions and unmet needs underneath. I tailor the work to your family’s specific situation, offering a space that is calm, structured, and supportive.
This may include:
- Helping family members feel heard and understood
- Supporting clearer communication and healthier boundaries
- Exploring the impact of past events or traumas
- Navigating cultural, intergenerational, or identity-based tensions
- Coping with transitions such as separation, loss, or illness
- Supporting the wellbeing of a young person in the family
mY WORK
I work with families from all backgrounds and have extensive experience supporting families from South Asian and other culturally diverse communities, where cultural values, expectations, and generational dynamics may play a significant role.
As a trauma-informed therapist, I also work gently with families where there has been domestic abuse, relational trauma, or ongoing safety concerns, creating a space where everyone’s voice can be held with care.
If your family is struggling to connect, communicate, or cope — therapy can help you begin again. Reach out to find out more or book a first session.
